LEAF Schools & Streets and Asheville Parks & Recreation Celebrated
LEAF Arts & Parks Camp 2015!
“I had fun. I thought it was awesome. The best camp ever!”- Julian, a camper at LEAF Arts and Parks Camp 2015
This year’s LEAF Arts and Parks Camp was one for the books! The two week-long sessions recreated the beloved festival experience for young LEAFers as they participated in dance workshops, healing arts, face painting, drumming workshops, hula hooping, costuming, performances, and so much more!
Throughout the first session, campers dressed up as their favorite animals and played GaGa ball, made balloon fish with the Balloon Fairy, and learned about pollination from giant bees on stilts. In order to unwind from all of the excitement, everyone stretched their bodies and minds through the art of Tai Chi.
The second week of camp was all about “Freeing your Funky Self”. Campers let their creative sides loose and made customized headbands and flags. After arts and crafts, Fede taught participants how to channel their inner animal and become one with nature through yoga. Once human again, campers enjoyed acrobatics, clowning, Chinese yo-yo, and plate spinning with the Toy Boat Circus Crew.
Both sessions were lucky to jam out with DJ Pride and have a dance party with Lisa Zahiya. Thanks to the Visual Artist in Residence, Cleaster Cotton, campers learned about art styles such as Cubism and even got to create their own Cubist Self Portrait.
