“I feel like I am making a positive difference in my community through this program because it is like building a bridge between the young and the elders.”
-Jairo Sanchez, LEAF International Costa Rican Culture Keeper

In this moment, LEAF says goodbye to Culture Keeper Jairo Sanchez for all the right reasons!!

Jairo Sanchez served as a LEAF International Costa Rica culture keeper for the past 5 years. During his time with LEAF, he became president & drum maker of the BriBri village, built a new school, and created a partnership with the Costa Rican government granting him a job to work in 3 different schools around the area. Jairo’s spectacular work opportunities are allowing him to travel all across Costa Rica; therefore, he is not able to teach on a daily basis in the BriBri village. Jairo won’t be too far away and will be forever connected to LEAF. We are extremely PROUD of Jairo and his many accomplishments.

As Jairo leaves, he is handing his culture keeper baton to Elvis Pitar – a young BriBri artist with a background in music, technology, & language preservation. Elvis is excited to continue the journey Jairo has started and has already jumped into teaching lessons on language & culture. LEAF welcomes Elvis Pitar to the LEAF International Costa Rica team!

Thanks to the continued support of MemberSHIP, LEAF International serves more than 750 each week in 10 countries: Costa Rica, Rwanda, Bequia, Guatemala, Panama, Mexico, Tanzania, Ivory Coast, Haiti, and Mardi Gras Indians of NOLA.
