By celebrating the accessibility of music that technology provides, LEAF International ONEmic studios support the belief that music and art can change the world, reduce poverty, and transform communities. Currently, LEAF International ONEmic studio programs are in Tanzania, Haiti, Costa Rica, and officially launching this year in Rwanda. Through music, dance, mentoring, videography and photography, the studios encourage children to develop their talents and creative skills, and then use those skills to become responsible adults and role models for other youth. Each ONEmic Studio features master artists, sound technicians and music producers who collectively encourage the development of artistry with youth and community members.
In addition to LEAF International ONEmic studios globally, in 2015, LEAF Community Arts partnered with the Burton Street Community center in Asheville to create the Burton Street ONEmic Studio. LEAF International Haiti, Tanzania, Costa Rica, & Rwanda have all journeyed to Asheville to record at the Burton Street ONEmic Studio – creating a cultural exchange while recording traditional music in their native languages.
LEAF International ONEmic studio programs honor the mission of the late Ben Gradison. Ben’s vision to create educational studios locally and globally is flourishing across continents. This global arts education model is sure to be duplicated throughout LEAF Community Arts programs and beyond!
