This trip provides you the opportunity to not only soak up the beaches and waterfalls of Costa Rica, but to become so much more than a tourist by traveling deep into the jungle to visit LEAF International program sites with indigenous communities. You will build meaningful relationships with members among First Nations and witness the powerful expressions of culture these communities have to offer. Come see LEAF International in action, while raising global awareness around cultural preservation with Costa Rican Culture Keepers.
LEAF International supports 3 programs in Costa Rica: 1) Bribri First Nation near the Caribbean and southern side of the country in Amubri, 2) Ngabe First Nation in La Casona, and 3) Cabecar First Nation in Ujarras & Chirripo. Each program empowers local culture keepers to preserve their sacred traditions, customs, land and language in their community.

Minimum and Maximum Number of Participants: A minimum of 10 travelers is required to operate this trip, and the trip will be capped at a maximum of 15 travelers. Should the trip be cancelled for lack of sign-ups, deposit and all monies paid will be refunded.
Day 1: Flight to SJO. Travel on own to meet at San Jose Hotel. Depending the time of your arrival, visit the Gold Museum, National Museum or local sites on own. Rendezvous with the rest of the LEAF Ambassador team for some sight-seeing. Lodging: TBD
Group dinner, Meet & Greet, and Costa Rica Cultural Orientation
Day 2: -Morning breakfast & intention setting. Travel to San Vito to meet Ngabe Culture Keeper Alexis Rodriguez. Guided tour of San Vito with Alexis.
Dinner and Indigenous Cultural presentation with Luis Porras Mora, LEAF International Costa Rica partner & founder of Proyecto Jirondai
Day 3: Travel with Alexis to visit 4 schools where he teaches and that honor Ngabe traditions – San Miguel, San Fran, Majesa, & La Lucha.
Visit local coffee farms & local shops in town. Dinner & Cultural presentation by Alexis Rodriguez
Day 4: Morning visit to La Casona –Where the LEAF program originated (on the commute out of town).
Travel to Ujarras to meet Cabecar Culture Keeper & Shaman Luis Salazar.
Dinner and shaman presentation by Luis Salazar
Day 5: Morning hike with Luis Salazar. Visit the spiritual medicinal school called Namasku – built by Luis S.
Participate is traditional Cabecar ceremonies.
Evening – Help the community rebuild structures – Community Service
Day 6: Early morning travel to the Pacific coast. Enjoy the beautiful beaches of Dominical– a playground for wildlife and hiking enthusiasts, and the nearly deserted beaches are the perfect escape for those looking to relax and unwind. Final group dinner – Highlights, thoughts, & gratitude.
Travel to San Jose.
Day 7: Breakfast. All depart depending on time of flights.
Optional Extension into Cabécar Indigenous Community For a truly unique and rare experience, you can extend your experience by visiting LEAF International culture keeper and shaman Luis Salazar’s home community of Alto Chirripo. Luis’s community, including his students whom he teaches native songs, medicine and traditions are located in the remote central – a 22 mile hike (on foot) up the mountain.
*The price of this trip is LAND only, meaning it is the responsibility of each registered traveler to arrange their own air transportation to San Jose, Costa Rica from their airport and airline of choice. First nights lodging in San Jose will be arranged for you; you only have to get yourself there by the evening of Nov 3, so as to be ready to begin activities and experiences with the LEAF group the morning of Nov 4. The trip officially ends on Nov 9th. Anyone is welcome to choose flights before or after the dates of the trip, and travel on their own to experience more of the region.

After this date, contracted pricing may change due to increase in costs associated with airfare, lodging, or other associated costs.
